Dynamic desktop graphics sonification (alpha)

This patch is part of my doctoral thesis project. The pixels under the mouse curor are sonified. The patch examines possibility to sonify the desktop graphics. The The mouse movement is projected to the sound characteristics (X-frequency), (Y - simple stereo panning). The colors alter the timbre of the resultant signal (RGB levels of pixels under the mouse pointer influence the amplitude of waveforms for every color. Known glitches: Y position is incorrectly reflected to the GEM window, X position is ok. I need to dig into this if this is gemmouse issue or something else. Sound clipping, not much time to fix this right know. Lots of other small things White pixels sound is too loud and clips the output

Égrégore

Egrégore is originally an audiovisual performance realized in 2011 that exploits group movement phenomenas. Complex and expressive behaviors are generated and controlled by a computer and transcribed in sound and image. A crowd of particles deploys itself, reorganizes, blends into living structures more or less coherent, evolving from a chaotic movement towards a cohesive group.
Egregore - source [03/2015] from chdh on Vimeo.

Tvestroy

Presented on 3 screens and 9 CRT televisions, Tvestroy is an experimentation of the link between image and sound. Generated from the same source, sounds and images are not only in synch — they emerge concurrently. The sound IS the image. This hypnotic and heavy electrovideoacoustic work engulfs the audience in an environment made up of geometrical abstractions and de-structured rhythmic phrases way beyond any compromise.
Tvestroy - Extraits/Excerpts from PERTE DE SIGNAL on Vimeo.

Midi Clock Sender

Here is a handy patch if you need a DIY MIDI clock source. This works both as a traditional metronome as well as a MIDI clock source. Let me know if you need me to explain something because it gets a little confusing at parts.

Voice Granulator

I created this Pd-extended patch after having a great time watching videos about WALL-E. It mimics the Kyma-produced effects that Ben Burtt used for the voices. Using a granular synthesis engine, you're able to achieve some awesome sounds. The two axis on the grid control the pitch and time, and allow you to perform your own renditions of this great sonic effect. You can load your own sound files in, and record your performances back out to .wav files. I'm not sure if it's Windows/Linux compatible. It was made and tested in Pd-extended for Mac. Let me know via the contact form on my site!

Home Base: audio reactive system for visual performance

I updated my audio reactive system for creating generative graphics and controlling third party software. The patch listens to 6 different frequency ranges and converts those streams into midi and osc data. It also uses 3 peaks from the fiddle~ object and publishes them as midi and OSC as well. There is a beat counter object that publishes its data stream as bangs using the object [s metro]. There are also 4 different messages for changing the frequencies of the 6 listener channels. I use this as a constant running patch that all of my other visuals patches listen to. It also publishes a syphon stream to allow PD generated video to be used by third party applications. You will need to grab the [syphon server] object separately as it is not included in pd.

Extended View Toolkit

Extended View Toolkit is a set of abstractions for combining multiple video or image sources into a panoramic image and for projection setups with mutliple projectors or projection environments with challenging geometric forms, better known as video mapping. Multiple input media (e.g. camera input, video files, image files, 3D renderings) can be processed. It is possible to create imagery or video by either stitching multiple inputs to one continuous, or by unwrapping a 360-degree image taken with a special optical lens system. Such processed media input can then be projected onto even irregular shaped surfaces. It is possible to blend smoothly between multiple projectors, to create seamless immersive media environments. Extended View Toolkit was originally created at the Institute for Electronic Music and Acoustics /Graz within the CO-ME-DI-A project, lead by Winfried Ritsch for the art installation Extended View by Peter Venus. The CO-ME-DI-A project was supported by the Education, Audiovisual Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Comission for the period 2007 - 2010 (http://www.comedia.eu.org/).

netpd

netpd is a CRNMME (Collaborative Realtime Networked Music Making Environment) built in Pure Data. It allows many users to have a realtime jam sessions with each other, connected over the net. Users might contribute their own netpd-ized patches a.k.a. instruments or use pre-existing ones. The set of patches, as well as the state of each is synchronized between clients in order to provide identical experience for every connected user. From a technical perspective the whole netpd framework pursues two goals: - Make sure that every client has the same set of patches loaded at any given time. - Make sure that any instance of a certain patch/instrument is state- synchronized with other client's instances. netpd was designed with music in mind, but it might serve well also other purposes, where realtime state synchronization is a requirement.

Slice//Jockey

Imagine a DJ set, and instead of turntables or cd players or iPods, it has two recorders. Real-time-beat-slicing recorders. Sound from your microphone is analysed, and sliced into coherent fragments which are engaged in playback rightaway. Slice//Jockey is a crossover of music game and live performance tool.

well it's messy as hell - nothing but an example really - building tunes that don't play the same unless the artist chooses so - and using randome seeds weighted by a percentage to trigger it all - anyway this is pretty poor layout/setup as I'm a wilson but you get the idea - pump it!

tonal and atonal

Here's a little generative composition I made. Most of it is my own creation, although the controls/clock patches are adapted from obiwannabe's music tutorials, and I also used Johannes Kreidler's limiter in places. It also requires pd-extended, as it uses some Zexy externals and the reverb from the examples folder.

This patch makes automatic music that responds to the amplitude and frequency signal received by a microphone (for example the built-in microphone of a laptop). The music produced by this patch is good for meditating or simply relaxing. So it's recommended that you sing while running it.

Perotinus Random

A simple three voices piece using Pd as a sampler and making use of 'random' object to combine short melodic phrases and long notes, in a manner that reminds Notre-Dame school style of XII/XIII century. The two interesting things about this piece are the general atmosphere and the fact that you never listen to the same music twice.

GOSUB10-004 - expr~

expr~ from 0xA is GOSUB10's fourth release. 0xA is a band made not out of people, but objects and patches. Snippets of codes that bleep and blink are added and modified in the online repository, where it all began. As the repository grows, 0xA evolves with it. Aymeric Mansoux, Chun Lee and Olivier Laruelle are the current active contributors. They have performed 0xA across Europe, North America and Asia in galleries, clubs and festivals. expr~ is the first music release of 0xA, consists of retro sounding tracks made almost entirely with the [expr~] object in Pure Data. No tweaking of number boxes and sliders, no clever generative algorithms, just switch the audio on and listen. The source code for this release (implemented in Pure-data) is free software distributable under the terms of the GNU General Public License (version 3 or greater). For repository, see: http://gitorious.org/0xa Copyleft: This is a free work, you can copy, distribute, and modify it under the terms of the Free Art License. == TRACKLISTING == 01 0xA - Winter_Solstice 02 0xA - 0903-4 03 0xA - Nandsynth 04 0xA - Moving_Souf 05 0xA - Cafe_Kuroshio 06 0xA - Family_Mart == WHATIS GOSUB10 == Dedicated to innovative music and audio/visuals, the GOSUB10 label will feature an eclectic group of musicians drawn together by their shared use of Free/Libre/Open Source Software (FLOSS). Freely distributed by stream, download and special DVD releases, and made available through an open license, GOSUB10 is run by the GOTO10 collective – an international group of artists, musicians and programmers, dedicated to FLOSS and digital arts. Brought to life in a intensive four day work sprint but years in the making, the GOSUB10 netlabel is a natural extension of GOTO10's activities supporting and promoting digital art alongside FLOSS tools through workshops, festivals, exhibitions, writing, and more.
